Instagram Bio Checker for Photographers

Photographers lose searches in a specific way: the display name carries a handle, a joke or a first name, and the bio carries a mood. Meanwhile someone types “wedding photographer Mumbai” into Instagram and gets other people.

Search matches what was typed against usernames, bios and captions. This checker runs the full scoring rubric against your text with photography keywords loaded (photographer, photography, portrait, videographer) so you can see which of the two searchable fields is letting you down.

Before and After

  • 1Example 1

    clickclickbang 💍 capturing love stories

Riya | Wedding Photographer Wedding photographer in Mumbai Helping couples love their photos DM to book 2026 dates

Wedding photographer" is the query. "Capturing love stories" is the phrase you like. Search only reads the first.

  • 2Example 2

Ana Sofia photos of people, mostly

Ana Sofia | Portrait Photographer Brand headshots for founders and teams Studio in Lisbon · sessions from €180 Book a shoot at the link below

Added the niche, the audience and the city in one pass. Three separate searches now lead to the same profile.

  • 3Example 3

    ✨ visual storyteller ✨ portfolio ↓

Luca | Brand Photographer Personal brand photography for coaches Shot in NYC, delivered in 7 days DM me "SHOOT" to check dates

The old bio described a personality. The new one names a client type and a turnaround, which is what a buyer is comparing.

  • 4Example 4

Photo | Travel | Life see the grid

Mei | Travel Photographer Travel photographer for hotels and tourism boards Editorial · campaigns · 40 countries Email for rates

Three unrelated words became one searchable category, and the CTA now says who to contact and why.

Niche Tips

  • 01

Put the literal job title in the display name. "Wedding Photographer", "Brand Photographer", "Headshot Photographer" instead of "visual storyteller" or "clickclickbang".

  • 02

Lead the bio with what you shoot and for whom. Your style is shown by your grid; your grid cannot be searched for "engagement photographer in Chennai".

  • 03

Add the city if you shoot on location. Couples and brands search geographically, and a location in the bio is one of the signals Instagram tells you to include.

  • 04

Keep one CTA. Booking, email or DM, whichever you actually answer fastest, because a photographer who takes two days to reply loses the enquiry.

  • 05

Quote the deliverable instead of the feeling. "Sneak peeks in 48 hours, full gallery in 3 weeks" is a decision a client can make; "timeless memories" is not.

  • 06

Your display name changes twice per 14 days. Decide on the keyword before you save it.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should a photographer put in an Instagram bio?

The job title in the display name, then in the bio: what you shoot, who you shoot it for, where you work, and one way to book. That order, because search reads the name first while visitors read the rest top to bottom.

How long can an Instagram photographer bio be?

150 characters for the bio and 64 for the display name. Line breaks count toward the 150, so a four-line bio eats five to ten characters on the breaks alone.

Should I put my prices in the bio?

Only if they are a selling point. "Sessions from €180" filters out enquiries you never wanted and attracts people ready to book. If your pricing is bespoke, say "email for rates" instead.

Does a link in bio help my profile get found?

No. The link is a destination, not a search signal. Instagram matches search queries against your username, display name and bio text. The link URL is not part of that.

How do I get found for a specific photography niche?

Use that exact phrase in your display name. "Wedding photographer" in the name field is the single highest-leverage change, because the name field carries the most weight in Instagram search.

Is the bio score the same as ranking in search?

It is not. The score grades the text signals Instagram says it uses. Popularity and activity decide the order among profiles that match, so treat the score as a writing guide rather than a ranking promise.

Extra Tips

  • If you serve a place, add your city to your name or bio. People search for what is near them.

  • Your display name can be changed only twice every 14 days, so settle it before you save.

  • Instagram search reads words, not emoji. Use emoji as anchors, never as the only words on a line.

  • If one keyword appears 3 or more times across your name and bio, write it more naturally.

  • Keep your handle short and easy to type. Long handles get mistyped and are hard to say out loud.

  • Lead with your strongest keyword. Both readers and search weigh the first line of your bio most.
