Advice
Niche Tips
- 01
Put the coaching type in your display name. "Career Coach", "Business Coach", "Life Coach". The name field is the most searchable spot, and coaching is searched by type.
- 02
Name the audience by role or moment, not by adjective. "New managers", "freelancers going full-time", "parents returning to work". Those are the identities people type in.
- 03
List the outcomes in one short line. CV, pricing, confidence, interviews. Concrete deliverables beat "unlock your potential".
- 04
Give a clear CTA with a trigger word. "DM 'PIVOT' to apply" both tells people what to do and lets you spot them in the inbox.
- 05
Say whether you are certified and how sessions run, in one line. Trust is decided before the discovery call.
- 06
One offer, one destination. A bio with three links and three invitations gets no action on any of them.
Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
How long can a coach's Instagram bio be?
150 characters for the bio and 64 for the display name. Line breaks count toward the 150, so plan on three to four lines with around 30 characters each.
Should my Instagram name be my name or my coaching niche?
Both if it fits, with the niche guaranteed. "Nia | Career Coach" keeps your name and adds the keyword that gets searched. Your name alone is not a query anyone types.
Does putting "#coach" or hashtags in the bio help?
No. Instagram search matches queries against usernames, bios and captions. Hashtags inside a bio are not indexed the way hashtags in a caption are, and they cost characters you need for words.
How often am I allowed to change my display name?
Twice every 14 days. Decide on the coaching type you want to be found for before you save, because a second thought may cost you the slot for two weeks.
Which matters more, the display name or the bio?
The display name carries the most weight in search, but a bio with no keywords still drops the second text signal Instagram reads. The checker scores both together for that reason.
Will a high score mean clients find me?
It means your text is written to be matched against what people search. Whether you appear first also depends on engagement, consistency and competition for the same keyword.
